Antenatal Clinic

Antenatal care is the care you receive from healthcare professionals during your pregnancy. You’ll be offered a series of appointments with a midwife, or sometimes with an obstetrician (a doctor who specialises in pregnancy and birth).

Your first antenatal appointment will be with a midwife and may be at the Gold Coast University Hospital or at one of our community centres. You will be asked to provide a detailed medical, obstetric and surgical history, which will allow the midwife to identify your risk-level.

The midwife will discuss with you your care options and advise you on the option that best suits your personal circumstances.

This will be an opportunity for you to ask questions you have about pregnancy, birth and post-birth.

You should receive an SMS reminder for all appointments you have with Gold Coast Health Antenatal Services.

Cancelling appointments

If you are not able to make your appointment, please contact us between 7.30am–3.30pm. If you call outside these hours, please leave a clear message with your full name and contact number so your call can be returned and your appointment rescheduled.

For each antenatal appointment, it is important to bring with you:

• your Pregnancy Health Record (blue book)
• ultrasound scans and reports
• Medicare card
• Health Care Card or other concession cards
• pathology results.

Queensland Health Pregnancy Health Record (blue book)

The record contains details about your health and the health of your baby. It will be given to you at your first antenatal appointment or by your GP and is in a blue folder. It is important that you bring this document to all antenatal appointments and to the hospital for the birth of your baby.
